Feelin' Witchy? Giveaway...have a look!

I have created my October calendar pieces and they are SUPER CUTE (if I do say so myself)! Nikki over at Melonheadz is amazing to say the least! She is so talented-if you haven't visited her blog make sure you do, you won't be disappointed! Below are my October calendar pieces...

Are these adorable or what? I can't wait to put them in my calendar! I will GIVE 3 COPIES TO 3 LUCKY FRIENDS...just leave a comment and you are entered to win! I promise one day when my kiddos are older, I will get a lot more creative with my giveaways-but for now this is the best I can do! All you amazing bloggers out there are an inspiration...one day-I will get there! But I LOVE pushing send when I email the winners!

In other news, this last week my colleagues and I had our kiddos write about scientists and we completed a really fun experiment with Mentos and Diet Coke. I am sure you have heard of this but Deanna Jump has a fabulous science unit that contains this very experiment and she does a great job of putting it in kid friendly terms. We wrote about a scientist and the scientific process. It was tons of fun! You can find my writing maps/lesson plans in my Common Core Writing Unit. When we finished writing about a scientist we created a flow map of the scientific process using the Mentos and Diet Coke experiment. Boy did they "GET IT!"

Last I have the October calendar with the activities for you to complete with your kiddos. Click on the picture and grab a copy.

That's all folks. Don't forget to leave a comment and enter to win a copy of the October calendar pieces.  Happy Sunday!

I am going to invite a firefighter into my classroom to discuss his job and share some of his tools with my kiddos. Below is my writing maps I use with my firsties to organize their ideas. Have a look...if you like how I have organized the maps and the process I have used to teach writing then you will LOVE my writing unit for first quarter. Where were you? and a Freebie...

Where were you on that day...9/11, the day the world stopped? I just had gotten into my car and was heading to school (college. I heard the confusion on the radio. It was Peter Jennings trying to describe the scene with a breaking voice on the verge of crying. The second plane hit and that was it, he was at a loss for words. Heartbreaking...but today we still STAND UNITED and FREE! God Bless America! I will NEVER forget!

WE WILL NEVER FORGET!

Freebie...

I have a freebie to share with all you wonderful teachers out there...My kiddo who is in fourth grade is struggling with taking tests. She switched schools this year and I think with the confusion and all the "newness" she has forgotten some of here test taking strategies she was taught from 3rd grade. SO, I made this bookmark to help remind her of the steps she needs to take during her tests. I printed it on card stock and laminated so she can actually check off the "job" or strategy as she completes it. I have it available at my store so if you would like a copy just click {HERE} and grab one!

Happy Test Taking!

As a grade level we have decided to tackle shapes and number sense first. So, I made this cute little Shape Monster Glyph to go with the other activities we have compiled. I got the idea from another amazing teacher and changed it up a little bit to meet our needs. With that being said, I have NO idea where the idea originated so if this idea is partly yours....PLEASE leave me a little comment so I can give you credit. I have not made an example yet but it is pretty self explanatory.  Have a look below:

The page below is the glyph directions for you to display while you create your shape monsters.
On a side note-I am going to use google eyes.

There are five shapes included in this pack (Circle, triangle, square, rectangle, and trapezoid)

This page is your shape monsters arms, legs, hair...
*I am going to have my kiddos glue a pom pom for a nose.

The page below is to collect data after all your kiddos create a shape monster. Each student will need a copy of this page.

If you haven't seen my bubble map inferencing activity with shapes, my trapezoid poem, my BINGO shape game, or my Shape Shuffle game ALL-FOR-FREE!!!...be sure to click on the triangle guy below and take a look.

Please leave a little comment below if you grab a copies of my freebies and share what you found at my blog with your teacher friends-IHave them come on over and join my blog... I love reading all your comments and growing my circle of friends!

ABC Criss-Cross Applesauce and Common Core...

The kiddos are back in school and we are off to another great start for the 2012/13 school year. My kids are A-DOR-ABLE! They always are, in the big scheme of things they are still so little when they come into first grade. They are eager to learn and love their teacher! It truly is the BEST grade level to teach!  I have created this fun little game below to meet the standard L1.1. Have a look:

I know a lot of districts have transferred over to Common Core Standards. We did last year so we feel good about teaching to Common Core this year-if you are a newbie to Common Core then come over and check out my newest unit called Surfin' Back To School-a Common Core Math and ELA Unit. Each hands-on activity is labeled with the Common Core Standard it covers. Have a look:

I will be giving three ABC Criss-Cross Applesauce games to three random winners. Leave a comment below and maybe you will be the winner!
